WEBPS Objectives and Statutes
Notice: We have spent many years researching and studying to provide the information within this site. All of the information and images provided herein are the property of the WEBPS and it's contributors. ANY unauthorized use of the WEBPS property will be detected and violators will be prosecuted. "They are a proud gift from the past, a gift that we may not all be able to appreciate, a gift that may only speak to the hearts of a few, but a gift all the same. It is the matchless courage and sheer amazing heart of the dogs that were capable of such a feat that are worth saving. Our ancestors considered the dogs worth passing on to the future, and we can do no less." Louis Colby Our objectives There is a huge difference between the WEB and ALL other bull breeds. The WEB will catch AND RELEASE ON COMMAND. This is an inherent trait in them, unlike other breeds, where they must be trained to release or "out" on command. The WEB is born with this ability. It's as natural to a WEB as is lifting his leg to pee. The WEB is very unlike all other bull breeds because of this as well as other major differences. With other breeds, the release or "out" is a breaking stick, that is if it has not had formal training. Not so with the WEB. The reason for this is because the WEB was bred to do so. The WEB that won't release on command is culled on the spot, sometimes given away to hog hunters. This culling has kept this trait very dominant in the WEB. What's unfortunate is that these WEBs that are not "proper" that have given away as hog-dogs because of their unwillingness to release on command are still being called WEBs. They are; in form but not in function. A WEB MUST be true to form and function to be accepted by the WEBPS as the real deal. We will not breed these cull/cur WEB at all, we will not sell or give away these WEB. We will do as the old timers did and cull them on the spot. It is our mission to re-establish, not re-build, the true function of the WEB in this manner. If only those who gave away all those culls, (what were called curs), had known what would happen to the WEB by doing so. We've had to go out and find the WEBs that are true to form and function to start over with, breeding only those dogs and culling the offspring that aren't true/proper WEB. That is our stand and our goal, the preserve the true old type WEB before the
popularity of hog hunting and the rise of the cull / cur WEBs take hold as the
mainstream, leading many to believe that hog hunting is the true function of the
WEB. Our objective is simple and straight-forward. We are an exclusive, members only group of breeders dedicated to the preservation of the WEB, specifically the Carr White English, a very old and hard to find strain found only in middle Georgia. It is our intention to save the rapidly disappearing CWE and it's remarkable rare temperament and physical abilities that make it such a wonderful breed and sets it far apart even from other WEB strains. The Carr White English and the Spanish Alano as registered by SEFCA are the only two known remnant populations of true ancient Alaunt type that exist worldwide and that still actively work cattle; the original function of the butcher's alaunt. It is the combination of this unique temperament, ability and traditional alaunt phenotype that we are preserving. The preservation of the Carr dogs IS NOT a rebuilding or recreation project, rather, a repopulation program utilizing the few remaining specimens. It is not our intention to popularize the breed, mass produce puppies for profit, or to make show dogs out of farm dogs. They never have been a show dog and we plan to keep them that way, strictly a working farm dog. It is our belief that popularizing a breed is most certainly the beginning of the end of what makes a breed so unique. It is the quickest and surest way to destroy a breed. We do not wish to change the WEB in any way whatsoever, only to preserve them as they are. We do not believe in training a bulldog to protect, a trait that should be innate. Nor do we believe in training a bulldog in man or sleeve work. This training is redundant and unnecessary in a properly bred bulldog, that can have tragic results to people, other animals and dogs, and to the dog itself. Quite simply, training a bulldog to protect and to bite a man that has been bred with a natural ability to protect is dangerous. We do not believe that training is a way of harnessing these abilities, rather that protection training destroys these natural abilities. This was also the firm belief of the originator of the American Bulldog, J. D. Johnson, "I strongly advise against protection training these dogs because I feel that they are aggressive and protection oriented enough. The majority of dogs that I have had returned to me over the years have been returned following protection training. I feel that these dogs can be trained from a protection or Schutzhund type standpoint, but I think that the dog trainer must be very highly skilled. These dogs can be extremely ferocious towards any animal and to direct this degree of fury towards a human being is dangerous. I know of no quicker way to ruin one of these dogs than to place him in the hands of a less-than-expert dog trainer who trains him to attack human beings." JDJ Our breeders have a strict code of honor and ethics, breeding only true WEBs. They do not infuse other bulldog types into their dogs. Their litters of pups are consistent in type and temperament time and again. We are proud to be preserving such an extraordinary breed of dog and just as proud of our breeders. WEBPS Statutes, Rules and Regulations - How We Operate
As the preservation efforts are the
intentions of all
of our members, we all work jointly, as a team within a a tight network.
When litters are born to one breeder in this network, all members receive at
least one pup from the litter if they chose to, the remaining pups are sold
to those who are interested in the preservation of the WEB as well. The WEBPS is completely not for
profit and is committed to the preservation
of the WEB. It is a costly endeavor for our members as well as the WEBPS,
which at this time is the sole financial responsibility of our charter
members.
Being a part of the WEBPS is a serious commitment
that requires complete cooperation from it's members. As well, it requires
active participation in breeding the WEB. We welcome any interest from
those familiar with the WEB; their input, experiences, photos, etc.
- Statutes One basic rule must be absolute honesty. Members can and will be terminated if a member is found to be:
Termination of membership is at the sole discretion of the charter members. A few quotes to think about, practice, and pass on. ©All Right Reserved
