Spike
was a legend around here. Everyone knew all about Spike. He was 20"
and 60 lbs., but that's all it took. He was famous enough without
being a massive, over-exaggerated behemoth of a dog. Spike could look
through you, right into your soul. You could read his soul in his eyes
as well. To look into his amber eyes, one found themselves transfixed
and in awe; feeling as though you were suddenly in the presence of a
higher being; yet he remained sentenced to life in the body of a simple
farm dog. He spoke to your soul through his eyes; he knew your every
thought, your every intention, and shared your every emotion, and he
reacted accordingly. He never failed nor disappointed us. He died
defending us. I measure all dogs against Spike, though I know there will
never be another. He stands alone.
