The Carr WE breeds true as cattle dogs with "Headers" and "Heelers" born in the same litter. They are required to work well with humans, livestock, and other dogs. The Carr WE has always been bred for the header type. 

Headers lead the herd and are calm, confident, and friendly. Their primary function is protection. Heelers drive the herd and are energetic, bold, confident, controllers of livestock. Their primary function is livestock control as well as protection.

Any sign of fear, nervousness, unprovoked aggression, or lack of submission to being handled is not only a disqualification, but also revokes breed quality registration. Aloofness is preferred.

Body

A moderate agile bodied dog standing on moderate but powerful legs of average bone. The neck should be solid, yet long and graceful; shoulders should be well muscled and well defined. Elbows should be in line with the dog's shoulders and feet. The musculature is not extreme or bulging as to allow for agility, quickness, and endurance. 

             females: 55 - 75 lbs.          20" - 23"    

             males: 65 - 90 lbs.             21" - 24"

Color

White, with or without patches of color, in order of preference: shades of red brown, black brindle, lighter shades of brindle least desired. Patches should be, in order of preference: on eyes, ears or about the head, on the rump, and occasionally sided or saddled, but never covering more than 25%. Coat ticking of lighter shades of yellow / brown is preferred and is not to be confused with black only pigmentation and spotting which is found on the skin, in full around the eyes, on the nose and lips, covering the genitalia. Coat ticking should be heaviest about the neck, shoulders, and back.

Head

Cinderblock, with shallow stop. Size of head only from jaws. Head flat when viewed from the side; blunt when viewed from the front. Supra-orbital arches pronounced with a center crease between the eyes to the back of the head. Usually carried low. Should bring to mind a Polar Bear's head.  Muzzle square and broad, half brick 2 1/2" to 4". Bite: Scissor or reverse scissor.

Ears

Rolled or flapped.

Eyes

Any shade of brown, amber ok. 

Feet

Round and compact with noticeable webbing between toes.

Coat

Coarse and thick with slight feathering on back of hind legs.

Tail:

When not docked, long, thick at base, and feathered at end.

Temperament:

Completely loyal and fiercely protective of its master, the master's family, property, livestock and especially the children. Absolutely never challenging to any member of the family. Completely submissive to its handlers. Calm with little to no threat display.

Use

Family and livestock protection. Controller and retriever of the roughest livestock, even in wetlands. Suffices as an all around hunter from treeing squirrels to bears.
