Character of the WEB
Throughout this site, we show several photos of the WEBs
working together whether working cattle or protecting
farms. This
working trait sets the WEB completely apart from the breed known as the
American Bulldog. This trait also sets the WEB apart from most modern breeds that descend
from the Aluants. Some of the other traits include a total respect for pack
order including human children as being over them. A mother WEB will care more for
the well being of a child than her own pups, as can be seen in the photo
below.
The WEB are completely submissive and protective to their human family. Most Aluant or Mastiff type breeds require a dominate master and careful handling and ownership. This is completely the opposite in WEBs. WEBs have long been used on farms to protect the livestock as well as family. They require very little training in protection as well as moving livestock. A farmer will not waste the time to train a working farm dog. The WEB does what it's told or it's fertilizer. This culling process has been continued for as long as anyone can remember. The WEBPS strongly agrees with this process. Besides, those WEBs of unsound nature working in a pack, will be culled by the pack itself. These are working dogs of mostly the lower middle class to poor farmers who depend on their bulldogs for their livelihood. Chasing rabbits when it's time to move cattle is not a working WEB. An adult WEB should in fact, only show interest in pleasing it's master. In many WEBs, this can be seen at a very young age. Basic commands are learned at a young age. Professional training would be a waste of time. Any WEB that would require such training is in fact, not a WEB. Since most any breed is a mixture of breeds, at times, occasional pups will be born without the proper temperament. Recessive genes lurk in any breed. The more the breed is inbred for type, the less chance of this happening will occur. It is the policy of WEBPS, to preserve the WEB in it's purity. Below is a series of photos of a 14 week old WEB pup, Max, bred by Ray Lane and owned by the Gibson Family of Memphis, Tennessee. This is the first time he has ever seen chickens. In the first photo he is taking it all in, no fear of them and no threat to them. In the 2nd photo he has gone to work, relying on his inherent abilities, and is not allowing the young birds by him, keeping them grouped for safety. The 3rd photo shows him simply watching over the flock. The 4th, he is content as he has them grouped together, yet he remains watchful. The last photo shows him completely comfortable with his work and the actions of the birds. Despite the large white hen having just walked up and pecked him right on the nose, he remained calm and completely unaffected by it and remained on guard. Max is a Gus son.
Comparing the character of the WEB to the Alano Modern Alano breeders describe the character of the Alano: "We breed Spanish alano
from 80´s, and we are inheriting of the cattle dealers from north of Spain,
from many, many years old. The character of the Alano is one and the same as that of the WEB!! As well as it's functions and the settings the dogs are used in; livestock farms.
